Interactive Fortune Teller

Our aim with this project was to explore the relationship between technology and mysticism through rituals, myth-making, and personal narratives. Our design was a reimagining of a traditional, fortune telling crystal ball using modern technology.
We created paper prototypes, as well as a fully functional interactive experience in the form of fortune teller. The fortune teller consisted of an acrylic ball, an offering box, and a mirror stand. The fortune teller also consisted of several technological components: an arduino uno, ultrasonic distance sensor, load sensor, and an RGB grid.

It was in some ways meant to provoke the user.
"Most people don’t understand how technology works.
They flip a light switch or tap their phone and what happens is magic. But technology has always been entangled with a sense of the mystical, as it grows more advanced, it becomes an oracle or deity in its own right. It is this mythology that exists within these systems, that we create through our own narratives and stories, that breathes life into them." - my project partner
